We highly recommend Jorge Gonzalez for any dive services (resort dive courses, PADI Open Water Certifications, Referrals, Ocean dives and Cenotes Dives). He offers private service for smaller groups and you can learn to dive in your private swimming pool at your villa!

Jorge Gonzalez was part of the IMAX film Journey Into Amazing Caves which was filmed in Yucatan, Mexico in 1999 and premiered in IMAX cinemas in March 2001. Jorge has 15 years dive experience and was chosen from the film company as their primary cenote diving guide. It is an incredible movie - don't miss it at the IMAX Cinema.

Akumal Watersports

Akumal offers a variety of watersports for everybody. Akumal Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. The white sandy beach invites for relaxing and long walks to the end of the bay (more then 1 mile). You can enjoy windsurfing, snorkeling or just relaxing on the beach.

Groceries in Akumal

We have two small, but very good, grocery stores in Akumal called "Super El Chomak" and "El Pueblito". They are open daily from 7am to 9pm. You can get everything you need, including soft drinks, liquors, dairy products and everything to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Akumal Farmer's Market

Fresh vegetables and fruits are sold in the center of Akumal on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am-5pm

Akumal Boutiques

Akumal offers 4 different boutiques selling traditional Mexican handicrafts, cloths and souvenirs.

Akumal Internet Cafe

The travel agency in Akumal opened an new Internet cafe next door to the Akumal Dive Shop. It has 24 hours access to the Internet so you can check your e-mail anytime or browse the web. There are two computers in the back portion of the office exclusively for Internet use.

Peak's Gym

Located at the entrance (arch) of Akumal on the left side (Plaza Ukana). Peak’s Gym is wonderful for those who don't like to miss out on their daily workouts.

Equipment: machines by MedX, a complete free weight system including a cable crossover, and 3 stationary bikes. Open Monday - Saturday: 8am - 1pm and 4pm - 7pm.

Turtle Protection Program

The Centro Ecologico Akumal has a great Turtle protection program every year. During the sea turtle egg laying season (May - October), they have nightly walks on the beach to look for nesting females. Their turtle team tags, measures, counts eggs, and marks the nest. This team is comprised of volunteers from all over the world who have been trained by their turtle biologist. Everybody is welcome to join them on their nightly walks. They have a limit of 10 people per night and you may make your reservations when you arrive in Akumal. The ask for a small donation per person.

Kids Club

The Kids Club in Akumal is located on the beach on Akumal Bay close to the Lol-Ha Restaurant and Palapa Beach Bar. Supervised play, crafts and videos.

Lots of fun for the kids and a chance for Mom and Dad to enjoy a ocean dive or simply have a delicious dinner alone at Lol-Ha. The Kids Club is open daily from: 9am - 2pm and 6pm - 9pm.
